Srinagar, May 27 (KAT): The Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, has officially announced that the crescent moon for the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah has not been sighted. The month of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH will begin on Thursday, May 29, 2025, paving the way for Eid-ul-Adha celebrations on Saturday, June 07, 2025.
Speaking to the news agency Kashmir Abb Tak, the Grand Mufti stated, “The crescent for the month of Dhul Hijjah was not seen today. Subsequently, the first day of Dhul Hijjah will be observed on Thursday, and Eid-ul-Adha will fall on the 07th of June 2025.”
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” holds immense religious significance for Muslims worldwide. It commemorates the obedience and devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) when he was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to the will of Allah. This festival is marked by prayers, community gatherings, and the symbolic act of sacrifice, followed by the distribution of meat to the less fortunate.(KAT)
