Srinagar, May 8 (KAT): Police on Thursday demolished an illegally constructed two commercial shops belonging to a habitual drug peddler in Dhobiwan Kunzer area in North Kashmir's Baramulla district.
In a hideout to KAT, police said the accused, Bashir Ahmad Mallah, son of Abdul Razaq Mallah, a resident of Dhobiwan, had encroached upon state land and raised the structure without any legal permission.
He is involved in multiple NDPS cases, including FIR No. 58/2025 under Sections 4 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Kunzer.
During investigation and verification, it emerged that the structure was constructed on illegally occupied land using proceeds allegedly generated from narcotics trafficking. Authorities said the construction violated revenue laws and established legal procedures.
Further investigation has indicated that close associates and family members of the accused are also allegedly involved in multiple NDPS cases across the Valley, suggesting a wider network linked to drug trafficking.
Acting on credible inputs and after completing all legal formalities, the demolition was carried out in coordination with concerned authorities and strictly in accordance with the law.
Police said the action sends a strong message that properties derived from drug trafficking will not be tolerated and that strict legal action will continue against those involved in narcotics trade.
Kunzer Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and said it remains committed to dismantling the entire narcotics ecosystem, including its financial and logistical networks. It also urged citizens to support efforts to combat drug abuse and protect society, particularly the youth, from the growing menace.(KAT)
