Uri, Jan 01 (GNS): The civil administration and the Army on Thursday provided relief to families affected by a fire incident in Garkote area of Uri, in which a minor was critically injured and a residential house was completely gutted.
Officials told GNS the fire broke out in the house of Mohd Din Bhat, son of Mohd Yousuf Bhat, a resident of Garkote, on Thursday afternoon. The blaze caused extensive damage and reduced the house to ashes.
During the incident, a minor identified as Rehan Bhat, son of Mohd Akram Bhat, sustained critical injuries. He was immediately shifted to Sub District Hospital Uri, where he was provided first aid. A health official said the injured minor was later referred to Government Medical College Baramulla for advanced treatment.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot soon after the incident. However, by the time the fire was brought under control, the house had already suffered complete damage. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated further investigation.
An official from the revenue department told GNS that a team of revenue officials along with the concerned chowkidar visited the affected family soon after the incident and distributed immediate relief. The assistance included bedding, blankets, ration, and other essential food items.
The official said the local Army unit also extended support by supplying food items to the fire victims. The administration said assessment of losses is underway and assured further assistance to the affected family as per norms. (GNS)
