Windstorm creates havoc in Kashmir, apple trees damaged in several areas


Srinagar, October 05: Gusty winds coupled with rains on Saturday late evening caused massive damage to orchards, trees and residential houses in parts of Kashmir Valley.

Reports reaching said that dozens of residential houses, electric transmission lines got damaged while trees were uprooted due to strong winds in several areas of south Kashmir as well as in north Kashmir.

They said that rooftops of about a dozen residential houses were damaged due strong winds in many parts of south Kashmir including Shopain, Kulgam,Pulwama and Anantnag.

Official sources told that power supply also got affected in these areas as strong winds damaged transmission lines and uprooted electric poles at several places. He, however, said that no loss of life has been reported so far from these areas.

Meanwhile, reports said that strong winds also wreaked havoc in other parts of Kashmir valley including Srinagar, Budgam, Bandipora, Baramulla and Kupwara districts.

Sources said that several residential houses, orchards and standing crop suffered extensive damage due to gusty winds followed by rains, hailstorm in parts of Baramulla, Sopore, Bandipora and several other areas.

Farmers and residents from affected areas have appealed Jammu and Kashmir administration to depute official teams to their areas to assess the losses caused by hail and windstorms for compensation.

Meanwhile,an Official told They said they were assessing the damage caused by strong winds in several parts of Kashmir.
