Feroz Khan launches Animal Birth Control programme in Kargil District | Kashmir Live Updates

KARGIL, 17 November 2020 (KLU): Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan launched the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Programme in Kargil District during a function held at Cattle Breeding Farm Kurbathang here today.


In order to implement the programme in the district, the Department of Animal Husbandry Kargil has set up a fully equipped operation theatre and laboratory with surgery and post-operative care, data maintenance and other required facilities to carry out the sterilization of stray dogs as per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).


Speaking on the occasion, the CEC said that the ABC programme would focus on the sterilisation programme of stray dogs which have been a menace in Kargil Town and other areas of the district and would help immensely in getting rid of their threat to human population.


CEC Khan said that the programme would be run on trial basis in Kargil Town in the first phase and based on its success would be replicated in other parts of the district.  


Meanwhile, the officers of Animal Husbandry Department informed the CEC that under the programme, the department is utilizing the services of trained doctors who would sterilise the dogs being caught by MC officials to control the population of dogs in the coming years and after the sterilisation, each dog would be marked in a particular way to identify the animal. 


After the treatment, the dogs would be let off again, the officers added_(KLU).
