IGP Kashmir Reviews Under-Trial Case Progress, Calls for Stronger Investigations Across Valley

Srinagar, Dec 05 (GNS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V. K. Birdi (IPS), on Friday chaired a high-level meeting at PCR Kashmir to review the monitoring mechanism and progress of under-trial cases across the Kashmir Zone.

The meeting brought together all Range DIsG, district SSPs, Law Officers, Public Prosecutors and Pairvi Officers. During the session, district SSPs delivered presentations on case disposal, follow-up measures and efforts to secure convictions in under-trial and under-investigation matters.

Discussions focused on a broad spectrum of crime-related issues, with particular emphasis on NDPS and UAPA cases, tracking of absconders, and progress on preventive actions. The status of pending inquest proceedings was also assessed.

IGP Birdi, as per GNS, commended district heads and Law Officers for their work in crime prevention but stressed the need to further enhance the quality of investigations. He called for increased use of scientific tools, improved follow-up mechanisms and robust case-building to strengthen conviction rates, especially in narcotics and terror-related cases.

The officer also reviewed the overall security situation in the Kashmir Zone, highlighting the importance of non-kinetic measures such as reinforcing the security grid, deploying dynamic nakas and maintaining continuous surveillance on anti-national elements (ANEs).

The IGP urged officers to uphold transparency, accountability and ensure timely disposal of cases. He underscored that efficient investigations and coordinated efforts are essential to securing convictions and safeguarding citizens' rights. (GNS)
