Srinagar, Feb 04: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) on Tuesday detained five suspects for their alleged involvement in smuggling SIM cards into jails to facilitate communication for terrorists and narco-terror operatives.

A police spokesperson, in a statement, said that the detentions were made as part of an ongoing investigation into FIR No. 06/2023 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at Police Station CI-K.

“Today, on 04.02.2025, in connection with the investigation of case FIR No. 06/2023 under sections 153-A, 505, 121, and 120-B IPC read with sections 13 and 39 of the UA(P) Act, five individuals were detained for questioning regarding their involvement in a criminal conspiracy. They were working in coordination with anti-national elements to procure, transport, and smuggle SIM cards into the Central Jail premises for use by inmates, including those linked to terrorism and narco-terrorism,” the spokesperson said.
