Leopard Behind Fatal Attacks in Handwara Successfully Taken Down


Handwara, Sep 4: The Wildlife Department on Wednesday successfully neutralized a leopard that had terrorized the Qalamabad area of Handwara.


The animal was believed to be responsible for a series of attacks in the Mawer belt, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.


According to reports the Wildlife Department had been tracking the leopard for several weeks after it claimed the life of 55-year-old Zareefa Begum, wife of Farooq Ahmad, in Mirpora Qalamabad.


The department intensified its efforts following this tragic incident, ultimately leading to the successful neutralization of the 'man-eater' leopard.


The same leopard is suspected of having attacked three other individuals in separate incidents, leaving Adnan Majeed, son of Abdul Majeed Thokar, Nusrat Majeed, daughter of Abdul Majeed Bhat, and Aadil Lateef, son of Abdul Lateef Piswal, injured.


The capture and neutralization of the leopard have brought much-needed relief to the residents of the affected areas.
