One more Monkeypox case confirmed in UAE, Toll 3: Heath Minister Veena George

UAE, 22 July 2022,(KAT) : Thailand has reported its first case of monkeypox infection, which was discovered in a Nigerian tourist to Phuket. Authorities are now conducting tests and taking preventive measures to ensure public safety.

The Department of Disease Control (DDC) said the first monkeypox case was discovered after a private hospital contacted authorities last week about a patient who had displayed signs of monkeypox infection. The patient was admitted to the hospital with fever, coughing, sore throat, and a runny nose. He also had genital rashes and lesions that had spread to other parts of his body and face.

A PCR lab test from the Thai Red Cross Emerging Infectious Diseases Clinical Center discovered that the patient had monkeypox virus, and the DDC lab testing officially confirmed the infection.

The Phuket Provincial Public Health Office issued an announcement outlining the patient's whereabouts before and after contracting the virus. Officials are currently conducting tests on people in high-risk areas, and no one has been found to have the infection so far.

The patient’s whereabouts are currently unknown since he refused to cooperate with authorities and disappeared from his hotel on July 21. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation to determine where the patient has gone, but they believe he is still in the country.

The monkeypox strain discovered is the A2 strain, which is not considered severe. The disease can only be transmitted by close contact with lesions, body fluids, respiratory droplets, and contaminated materials such as bedding.
