Fresh Weather Update for J&K: Light to Moderate Heavy Rainfall in Plains & Snowfall in Higher Riches - KASHMIR ABB TAK

Rain/snow is very likely to commence in Jammu and Kashmir from today evening.

Mostly, moderate to heavy rain is expected in plains while moderate to heavy is likely over higher reaches. 


Day temperature in most parts of Kashmir valley will stay below 11°C tomorrow. 


Higher reaches like Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Gund and adjoining areas, and all places above 2500m that have not received snowfall till now, may receive season's first snowfall tomorrow. 


Along with rain, there are also 50% chances of snowfall in Pahalgam, Jawahar Tunnel, Keran, Machil, Tangdhar and adjoining areas. 


Parts in Gurez Valley, Peer Ki Gali, Z-Gali, Razdan Top, Sadhna Top, Sinthan Top, Zojila and other areas above 3000m may receive heavy snowfall. Snow depth can vary between 1 foot to 5 feet. 


Light to heavy rain showers are also expected in Jammu region. While higher reaches may receive snowfall. 


Light to heavy snowfall is also expected in Ladakh Union Territory. Snow depth can vary between 1cm to 2.5 feet. 


District-Wise Snow Forecast in Kashmir Valley 


Srinagar: Snow chances less than 7%. Moderate to heavy rain showers expected.

Ganderbal: Snow chances less than 8%, however, higher reaches may receive moderate to heavy snowfall.

Budgam: Snow chances less than 8%. Moderate to heavy rain showers expected. Higher reaches may receive moderate to heavy snowfall.

Kupwara: Snow chances less than 10%. Moderate to heavy rain showers expected in plains. Moderate to heavy snow in higher reaches.

Baramulla: Snow chances less than 9%. Moderate to heavy rain showers in plains. Moderate to heavy snow in higher reaches. 25% snowfall chances in Tangmarg.

Bandipora: Snow chances less than 9%. Moderate to heavy rain showers expected in plains. Moderate to heavy snow in higher reaches. 


South Kashmir Districts

Anantnag: Snow chances less than 15%. Moderate to heavy rain in plains. Moderate to heavy snowfall in higher reaches.

Pulwama: Snow chances less than 13%. Moderate to heavy rain in plains. Moderate to heavy snowfall in higher reaches.

Shopian: Snow chances less than 30%. Moderate to heavy rain in plains. Heavy snowfall in higher reaches.

Kulgam: Snow chances less than 18%. Moderate to heavy rain in plains. Moderate to heavy snowfall in higher reaches. 


The forecast has been issued for 23 October only. A separate forecast will be issued for 24 October.

Except (as shown by) two models, there is no snow possibility in plains.

A close eye will be kept on the changes shown by these 2 models as model accuracy of these models is a little higher many times.

Hourly updates will be issued tomorrow along with temperature updates. 


Once weather system will leave Jammu and Kashmir, significant drop (3 - 6°C) is expected in both minimum and maximum temperatures.
