No Fuel Shortage In Baramulla, Hoarding To Invite Strict Action: Police


Srinagar, March 25 (KAT): Days after concerns surfaced over possible disruptions in the supply of essential commodities, police in Baramulla on Wednesday asserted that there was no shortage of petrol and diesel in the district, even as it warned of strict action against hoarding and the spread of misinformation.

In a public advisory, as per news agency Kashmir Abb Tak (KAT) Baramulla Police stated that the supply of fuel across the district was normal and urged citizens not to fall prey to rumours or indulge in panic buying.

"The public is advised not to believe rumours or indulge in panic buying. Spreading misinformation or hoarding fuel in jerrycans and canisters is illegal," a police spokesperson said, adding that any fuel pump or individual found involved in such practices will face strict legal action.

Authorities have also urged residents to report any instance of hoarding or supply disruption by sharing photographic or video evidence on dedicated helpline numbers, including the SSP Baramulla and the district police control room.

In a separate development, police said they had taken cognisance of an incident at Bandi Bala in the Chandoosa area, where a vehicle carrying LPG cylinders was obstructed. Terming interference in the supply of essentials a punishable offence, police said such actions would not be tolerated.

The advisory comes amid heightened vigil by security forces to ensure the smooth supply of essential commodities across the district. Authorities have called for calm and appealed to the public to cooperate with officials and rely only on official information.(KAT)
