DSEK proposes winter vacation in phased manner from Dec 9 in Kashmir

Srinagar, December 04 (KAT): The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has proposed winter vacations in a phased manner from the second week of December for Kashmir schools and winter zone schools of Jammu.

As per the proposal submitted by the DSEK, the winter vacation for classes up to 2nd primary has been proposed from December 9 of 2024 to February 24 of 2025.

According to sources within the School Education Department, the winter break for students in classes 1 to 2 is expected to begin on December 9. For students in classes 6 to 9, the winter holidays will commence a bit later, starting December 16.

The winter vacation period is traditionally a much-awaited respite for students, providing them with an opportunity to rest and prepare for the next phase of their academic year. The department has been working on coordinating the vacation schedules to ensure minimal disruption to the academic calendar while also taking into account the colder weather conditions in the region.

Talking to DWKN Education Minister Sakina Itoo said winter vacations will start soon after exams will finish.

Pertinently, the timing of the vacations is especially significant this year as it allows students in both urban and rural areas to prepare for the upcoming winter months, during which many schools in higher altitudes experience harsh conditions.

Minister Itoo further said that the announcement of the winter holidays will be officially communicated soon, once the exams are completed, ensuring that students have ample time to focus on their studies before the break.(KAT)
