Srinagar, Feb 26 (KNO): Amid speculations of extension of winter vacation in Kashmir in view of wet weather spell, School Education Department Monday said that it has not taken any call over the issue yet.
Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Administrative Secretary School Education Department Piyush Singla said that the news in the air regarding extension of winter vacation was merely a rumor.
“As of now we have not taken any decision but whenever there will be any decision in this regard, we will accordingly notify the students,” Singla said.
Pertinently, the Srinagar meteorological officials had informed that the weather will likely remain cloudy from February 28-29. However, it also said that there was a possibility of light rain and snow at isolated places.
The department had further forecasted light to moderate rain with snow at some places with downpour from March 2 and March 3.
Earlier the Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Tassaduq Hussain Mir had said that it was monitoring the weather conditions.
The director had also said that it was undecided about the extension of winter vacations. “We are accessing the weather conditions and the decision about extending the vacation will depend on the weather conditions.”
Mir said, “I will speak to the administrative secretary and will take a call accordingly.”
In November-2023, the then Principal Secretary, School Education Department, Alok Kumar had informed KNO that the department was not in a position to cater heating arrangements to all of the students of government schools.
Kumar had said, “We have a huge number of schools and we don’t have that much of facilities available to provide prior winter vacations.”—(KNO)
