Aligarh, Jan 29: A 17-year-old Class 12 student of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)-run Sir Syed Hamid Senior Secondary School was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his rented room in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Adnan Altaf Maglu from the Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir and he was staying at the Shahbagh locality in Aligarh, said the police.
“His parents have been informed about the death. They are expected to reach Aligarh late Monday night and his body has been kept at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Aligarh,” AMU Proctor Wasim Ali.
The Proctor’s office said Maglu had stayed at the AMU hostel till Class 11 but had to vacate the place because of low scores in the Class examinations. “His marks were low and as per the rules at AMU for hostel allotment, he did not qualify to continue and was asked to move to a rented accommodation,” said Ali.
The police said when the landlord who rented the room to Maglu did not notice any activity from the room till Sunday afternoon, he informed his parents in Baramulla.
The father, Altaf Hussain, then asked an acquaintance to visit his son’s room personally, the police said. The man sent by the father reportedly found Maglu lying unconscious on the floor in his room. He was rushed to a medical college hospital, where he was declared brought dead, the police said.
“The doctors told us that the student had died six to seven hours before his body was brought to the medical college. We have recovered a few medicines and an empty bottle from the room. The body is kept at the mortuary and we are waiting for his parents to arrive, after which the post-mortem will be conducted. At present, we cannot say any reason for the death,” said Deputy SP (3rd) Ashok Kumar Singh.
Ali said that after being moved to his rented room last year, Maglu had cut his vein once. “His parents were called to live with him and they remained in Aligarh till December with their son but he was alone when the unfortunate incident happened on Sunday,” said Ali.–(The Indian Express)
