Bandipora, Dec 12: A rare musk deer commonly known as ‘roose kat’ was captured alive in Chandeji forest belt of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, Wildlife officials said on Tuesday.
A wildlife official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the deer was roaming in the Chandeji forests after which the animal was captured alive by the locals.
He said that the musk deer which is an endangered species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species (IUCN Red List), will be taken to Dachigam wildlife sanctuary.
The official said that the presence of musk deer in the said area has been recorded also earlier by the wildlife officials—(KNO)
