Eid-Ul-Adha celebrations, a reminder, lesson for being obedient towards parents: Grand Mufti J&K

Srinagar, 10 July 2022,(KAT) : As Eid al-Adha is being celebrated, the festival is the second of the two major Islamic holidays of the year, which usually falls around two months after Eid al-Fitr.

Grand Mufti Jammu and Kashmir Mufti Nasir ul Islam in a brief conversation with Rising Kashmir speaks about the importance of the day and various obligatory do’s and don’ts associated with the festival.

Mufti Azam J&K said the festival Eid al-Adha (Eid meaning "feast" or "festival" and Adha meaning "sacrifice") is celebrated after the prophet Ibrahim was commanded by Allah to sacrifice his son Ismail as evidence of his faith. Despite discouragement from the devil, Ibrahim obeyed Allah's command which eventually was replaced with a ram.

He said the festival comes with a message of obedience which is fading away in the ongoing era as in most cases sons are turning against their parents, which is very unfortunate.

“In many cases, we have seen a son beating his father or in dispute, this is the lesson for all which comes with a message of being obedient to your parents”, he said.

While talking about many do’s and don’ts, the grand mufti said to sacrifice an animal, in case of a sheep or goat, the minimum age of the sacrificial animal should be one year. He however added that there are exemptions that if the age of the animal is 6 or 7 months old and is visibly healthy and muscular, the animal can be sacrificed.

“Animal meant for sacrifice should be in good health state and should not be defective like limping or any other major wound,”he said.
He said the festival teaches us obedience, saying that the festival always reminds us of being obedient to our parents.

He on the occasion said the festivities should be celebrated with austerity and appealed to people to follow the celebrations according to the Islamic teachings.

He also appealed that people should not resort to useless expenses, and should identify genuine needy people and help them. He also stressed that the meat of sacrificial animals should be distributed without any bias or favour and reach to genuine as per the Islamic teachings.
