41 persons stil missing, Yatra will resume Soon: DG CRPF


Srinagar, 10 July 2022,(KAT) : Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Kuldeep Singh on Saturday said that a joint rescue operation near Amarnath Cave is underway and still 41 persons are missing. He further informed that the holy Yatra will be resumed soon and the situation is totally under control.


Addressing a press conference at Baltal Base Camp, DG CRPF Kuldeep Singh said they are taking all precautionary steps.


He said that the exact number of missing persons is not known. “According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, 41 persons are still missing, some of whom may have been found,” the officer said.


He said, “The holy Yatra may resume within a day or two.”
On Saturday, critically injured people were airlifted to Srinagar.  


“Eight critically injured people have been shifted to Srinagar Hospital for treatment,” he said.


Two people who were buried due to flash floods but were alive, were also rescued, DG Singh said.


The senior official said all departments have been engaged in relief work since the tragedy took place. He said that normalcy has been restored and the rescue operation has progressed considerably.


The DG CRPF said Yatra was closed on Saturday because many people were still living in camps and the roads were slippery at many places.


As per official figures, so far 16 people have died in the cloud burst incident near the holy shrine of Amarnath, while 40 still seem to be missing.
Four NDRF teams with over 100 rescuers in rescue work. Besides, Indian Army, BSF, SDRF, CRPF, and others continue with the rescue operation.
