Srinagar, 05 December 2020 (KLU) : A 25-year-old girl from old city Srinagar has become a house-hold name for reviving hundred years old folk genre, Ladishah, to raise social and political conditions in society.

Syed Areej from Alamgari Bazar Srinagar, who has completed her bachelor's degree from Women's College Srinagar is the first woman Ladishah of Kashmir which was till date dominated by men only.

While talking with news agency—Kashmir Live Updates (KLU) Areej said that since her childhood she was interested in Ladishah, as it was part of Kashmir's culture.

"I am very passionate about doing social work. And to grab the attention of people I zeroed in on adapting the character of famous Ladishah," Areej said. " Moreover, it is our duty to keep our culture alive, it identifies us."

Areej has written around two dozen Ladishah's on different issues, however, it was her satire on the "challenges of Journalists" working in Kashmir, that made her famous.

"I always received support from my parents and friends. However, there were some relatives who were reluctant to allow me to become Ladishah during the initial period but now they too are supporting me," she said.

"There is hidden talent in everyone and we must come forward with our talent and use it for the welfare of our society," Areej said—(KLU)
